Alchemy Menagerie

April Fools - Alchemy Menagerie

Nothing too damaging or destructive, of course. But there’s plenty of creative ways to use the skills Daybreak has taught them over the years, and they’re certainly showing it in spades for this year’s senior prank. Those who want to avoid such pranks should either be quick on their feet, armed with protective gear, or simply ask for an antidote or wait for the effects to wear off….though requesting an antidote might be a bit difficult, for some.
It should also be noted that, as these transformations are both magical and temporary, no pain comes from them. At worst, those who aren’t used to such high levels of magic will have minor allergic reactions (itching or sneezing) that will fade after a few hours.
A. A Horn In Your Side
Those who are struck by (whether it be in mist, powder or liquid form) or manage to somehow ingest the contents of glowing white potions will find themselves undergoing temporary transformations that leave them with animal features, like horns, wings, and claws. These features aren’t limited to just mammals, either; anything from the scales and fins of fish to the antennae and limbs of arthropods are fair game, and more beyond that - the features of magical, mythical creatures are available as well!
These new appendages, if appendages they happen to be, possess the physical capability of their real-life counterparts for as long as the effect lasts. When it ends, they disintegrate or otherwise disappear without harm.
B. Hello This Is Dog
Vivid green potions are the culprit for this particular transformation. Those who are affected by this concoction will be transformed entirely into a creature of some kind - whether that be a mundane creature from Earth, or something far more mythological. Any supernatural hungers have no power or compulsion over individuals affected by this transformation, though you may feel mildly uncomfortable around their common weaknesses (if they have any).
When this potion wears off, the afflicted returns to their normal form, with whatever clothing they were wearing before they transformed (despite unprofessionalism, this is a school and there are decency rules to be observed.)
C. But Who’s Driving The Plane?
Of course, even a completely human body can be a problem- especially if it isn’t your body at all. Anyone hit by a deep red potion will discover this in short order, as they find themselves randomly switching bodies with someone else affected by the potent brew. These tend to be shorter-duration than the previous two potions, but not always- even though it’s been carefully safety-tested, alchemy isn’t an exact science. Or magic.
At least you only switch once, giving you time to get accustomed to your new body and figure out who’s wearing your face for the duration. ...Unless you get hit again, that is.
D. Too-Literal Team Bonding
The final and most complicated of the potions are a very dark blue, almost black, seeming not to glow so much as absorb the light around it. “Absorb” may be an oddly appropriate word, too, as anyone hit by one of these potions will find themselves melding with the first person they touch!
These fusions are physically seamless, with no pain or grotesque twists of flesh- it’s meant to be a prank, not a horror show. However, while you’ve been perfectly blended together physically, mentally you’re still two separate people. You can speak to your unfortunate co-pilot telepathically, or just try to psychically slap-fight them for control of the body’s vocal chords, but sooner or later you’re going to have to work out a way to get along- otherwise, you’re probably not going anywhere for a while.
E. New Transformations/Wildcard
As these effects are caused by potions, it’s entirely possible to be unlucky enough (or lucky, depending on your perspective) to be struck by two effects at once. Theoretically, both will stay stable, and you’ll suffer through both combined. Or perhaps they’ll cancel each other out...well, there’s only one way to find out, isn’t there?
