Class Log - Practical Uses for Magic in the Modern Day
Who: Urtz, her students, and anyone else who wants to sit in/see her in her office.
What: Practical Uses for Magic in the Modern Day
When: The start of classes. (Early January)
Where: Urtz's classroom + Office
Warning: None to speak of, will update if this changes.

[It was the first day of class and Urtz was feeling great. Her Magic 101 class had went went and she was sure her Practical Magic class would be even better. Currently she's standing in front of the chalkboard but behind a desk with a stack of syllabuses on it. Whenever a student walks in, she greets each of them politely before asking them to take one as they find a seat they like.
Once it reaches 1 o'clock the door is closed and class can begin.]
Once again, hello everyone. I am a new professor here at this wonderful academy. My name is Lady Urtz Cromwell. If you wish to call me "Professor", I won't stop but you, but Lady Cromwell or Professor Cromwell is preferred. You'll find, both in life and in my class, that a little bit of respect can go a long way.
[She steps out behind the desk and makes her way to the front row.]
Now then, this class is something I came up with on my own. Some of you may see magic as a way to primarily fight again Nightfall. While offensive magic is important, there are many other uses for spells and magic overall. Things that will help you in your everyday life or that can get you out of a problematic situation. For example, one of my personal favorite spells is Et Digitos Magum. This allows you to create a hand of magic which you can control as easily as if it were your own. It can move quite a distance away from you, can't be damaged, and is an excellent way to start making spells your own.
General spells like this will be taught in this class, but a class like this needs to be tailored to its students. So I'd like to hear a little bit from each of you. Your dreams, goals, and the like. I'll try to incorporate ways to help in my lesson plan. Now, if there aren't any questions... [She gestures towards the class.] I'd like to hear from each of you.

[After her class, Urtz can be found in her office writing and typing. She actually got to her office earlier than scheduled and she plans on staying later, so no problems with stopping by late. Anyone is welcome to her office hours, too, even if you're faculty or you aren't in one of her classes.]

I...
[She did not sound as angry before, just suddenly...sad, scared, humiliated. She just wanted to slink away.]
...Nothing. I-I don't want to make a deal anymore...
[She was really happy to show off her hats because she put a lot of effort into them. It was something to be proud of because there wasn't that many things she could do so freely on her own. And it was always because of some safety rule an adult makes up.]
[Now she felt ashamed of her hats too. She's sorry she asked for anything at all.]
no subject
She was at fault. Plain and simple.]
...very well. I'm sorry for pressing the issue.
[After that she continues on with her lecture, though it's devoid of any real life to it. It's like she's turned on an audio book to speak for her. When the bell rings, she doesn't say anything and simply sits back down at her desk, putting her things away quietly. Of course if Puella opts to leave the class before it ends, she won't stop her.]
no subject
[Nor did she know what to do after that. She could just go back to her room, but for some reason, had it in her head that that would get her in trouble. Someone was just going to know that she was cutting class - or the scene she made - or something. That she couldn't risk it. Something else her magic could easily resolved if she remembered that she had it. Or maybe it was just the aching feeling of guilt preventing it...]
[Instead, Puella chose to stay not far from the door for the remainder of the session, as pathetic as it was. She had the joy of getting a scooter taken from her, adults are disappointed, more nice things were probably going to get taken away too, everyone else knows about it, today was the worst day ever. And her eyes were beginning to water up because of it.]
[Thankfully there wasn't too much of the class left. Although once students were beginning to leave, Puella panicked again. She made an effort to hide along the wall, or blend in with the crowd. If or when Urtz decides to come out, she will clearly see that Puella is not as tough as she claims to be.]

You needn't worry about leaving class early. A professor who cannot understand her students deserves to have her students leave. The headmistress will not hear of this nor will any of my colleagues.
[She extends her hand, revealing the items left behind.]
I'm sorry for being as harsh and rude as I was. Being around children is not something I'm used to. At first I thought you refused because you wanted to look...cool? In front of your friends and in class. But now I see you must have a reason for refusing. One that you feel strongly about.

...Is Ekke mad at me now?
[There was the bad news.]
no subject
[The will ever be goes unsaid, but it's pretty obvious judging by the sheepish way eye hers look away from Puella for the faintest of moments.]
no subject
...Why does no one ever trust me?
[Even though she was talking to Urtz, that was pretty much an open statement. Not really aimed at anyone.]
no subject
[Urtz offers Puella a small smile.]
Puella, I know it may seem like some people do not trust you, and indeed, it's possible that number may be higher than you would like, but there are plenty who do. I trust you. My class is not easy nor is there a guarantee that any of my students will leave without a scratch or worse. But even with your youth, I suspected you could handle it and more. As I mentioned, Ekke sings your praises highly and I've read your file. You've even gone on missions! That's quite impressive.
[She kneels down, attempting to meet her eye to eye.]
...but my request for you to wear a helmet was not about trust. You could be injured through no fault of your own. Maybe the bike malfunctions. Maybe someone hits you. It doesn't matter what the reason is, the end result is still you getting hurt. At least try to look at it like that. If you want the scooter and you truly don't want to wear a helmet, then fine. I'll give it to you as a symbol of my trust with no strings attached. But do try to look at it from someone else's perspective, alright? That isn't a stipulation, just a request.
no subject
[...Maybe she wasn't so bad after all. And Puella took much consideration to think about it.]
Does it really need to be a helmet? Why not something else?

[Whether it be because it used a purest form of magic, or her enchants were that simple.]
Especially when I use a better kind of mist now.
[To which, she pouts.] ...Next people are gonna say I can't use that anymore either.
no subject
Doubtful. From the files I've read, limitations are only ever placed on an individual when they cross a line. You have not used your abilities to commit any kind of wrong-doing, so I see no reason for this mist to be taken away. The school has more trust and faith in you than you know, Miss Tempus.
no subject
[No, it was more about how and where she gets it from. That could be the problem. And for a moment she was really reluctant to comment on it.]
[But if Urtz really, truly, absolutely trusts her...]
...The mist did harm some people before.
--But that's only because they shouldn't have gone in by themselves!
no subject
Though this conversation is getting a bit abstract. Urtz isn't quite sure she follows. Or maybe she'd just prefer some context.]
Could you elaborate further on this incident?
no subject
[Here it comes. But also, kind of amazed that Urtz didn't know.]
When I opened the rift for the first time. I didn't know that it stays open.
So others walked in too.
[That's probably not really answering it!]
no subject
[She is still knew here and Ekke isn't exactly the most talkative of people.]
no subject
...They call it the Dream World. It's where Time Pieces come from.
[That still is not very helpful. However if she says how people got caught in illusions of their own making. She might...]
...I've got ancestors that live in there!
[Perhaps that might win over Urtz instead.]
no subject
And no doubt something bad happened to the people who entered alongside you. Though as you said, it was not by your choice and there's no way you could have known that the portal you entered would stay open.
[But there is another question on her mind.]
Did you know where this rift would lead when you opened it?
no subject
[There was no evidence that the world actually existed, until recently.]
no subject
[She keeps her tone even, so she doesn't sound accusatory or mad.]
no subject
[She promised to keep him a secret. Even though she may have fumbled with it once already.]
no subject
[She's hoping the answer is yes.]
no subject
...He would have.
[Although she doesn't seem all too thrilled about it, given what happened.]
But I don't think he liked it that I trapped everyone else by mistake too.
