For He's A Jolly Good Fellow
Who: All of Ekkehardt's friends
What: A (belated) birthday gathering
When: May 2nd
Where: On campus
Warning: Copious amounts of fun involving the Daybreak Dumbass Squad.
Notes: None!
While Urtz already somewhat of a perfectionist, that trait tends to increase dramatically when she is working on something for someone else. Or, to be more premise, someone she actually cares about. Which is why Ekkehardt's birthday celebration took her a few days more than she had planned, even after her recovery from the possession debacle. Although the hardest part was making sure that the celebration was nothing too ornate or big, while not seeming lazy. Ekke tended to be a difficult person to please when it came to things like this, since he was the kind of person to appreciate the act of caring in and of itself.
Not that it would stop Urtz in any way.
She was sure to break out all the stops. A delicious cake baked by herself, embedded with magic so her brother would be able to taste it much better than normal, food prepared by the Academy's finest staff, subtle but nevertheless elegant decorations, various activities including karaoke (because of course it's there), and more. Placed against the wall of the room is a table full of various wrapped gifts for Ekke. One such gift is a long box, wrapped in black wrapping paper and tied with a purple bow. A tag on the present simply says "From Jail and Urtz".
Aside from all the friends on campus, both students, staff, and others, Urtz also took the liberty of inviting his other family members and even a certain four-legged friend. It took a lot of work, but she really hopes everything goes smoothly. After all the preparations have been finished and all the guests who responded have shown up, Urtz heads off to bring the man of honor himself.

semi-open
It's not as if Urtz made her intentions unknown, so he could easily have just scouted out things himself, but...
Well, waiting for the surprise is all part of the birthday experience. And as much as celebrations focused on him aren't really what he prefers, he'll be a good sport and play along. It's all in good will, after all.
He's still working when Urtz comes to retrieve him.
B [open]
Ekkehardt is absolutely spoiling his dog is the most important thing. Everything else is good too, but it's abundantly clear he's happy to be reunited with Schatz for more than the small amount of time he gets to himself on breaks.
Anyone who wants to talk to him will likely have to contend with being greeted by a wildly happy borzoi first, which might be a bonus or a deterrent depending on your point of view. Very rarely, he can be found with a glass in hand, poking at his presents like someone who doesn't know what presents are for.

[...look, Jail has her priorities and this dog is adorable, okay. After cooing over Schatz for a satisfactory amount of time and hopefully getting to pet her cute little head, she finally looks up at the actual person whose birthday this is.]
Happy womb escape day, buddy. Hope you like the gifts, she did the wrapping up all fancy and special. [It's pretty obvious which "she" Jail means, considering her fond expression as she says it. Urtz is a good sister that way.]
no subject
Uniquely eloquent as ever, I see. [ Womb escape day, really...he just smiles, though. ] I'm sure I'll like the gifts, since the both of you know me so well.
[ He reaches over to start unwrapping the one with both their names on it. He might as well. ]
no subject
Hey, only some of those are my fault. [That's a super encouraging thing to here, clearly.] But I'd give her most of the credit for that one. Her design, I was just the brute labor.
[The package proves to contain a wooden box, with something heavy inside...]
Well, you know how it is- you can get one of 'em anywhere, but it's not the same without that personal touch...
[It's a sword.]
no subject
I admit I'm not well versed in where to get a good sword...it's never been my kind of weapon.
It's well made, but I wouldn't expect anything less. [ He gives it a little flourish. ] Thank you.
Re: semi-open
[As if Puella didn't just come over here to see Ekkehardt. There was a pupper to play with too.]
[Or a pupper to get piled on by, apparently.]
Oh no, you got me! [She was doomed, for sure.]
no subject
Ekkehardt simply laughs a little, clearly enjoying the sight. It's nice to see Schatz likes Puella just as much as she likes the children at home. ]

Can we keep her??
[Academy needs more dogs...]

[But it's true, maybe she would get lonely being away from home that long...] ...Can she at least stay for awhile?
B
Héctor is laughing as the dog all but clambers on him. It's a little easier to contend with her weight when he's not down to bones. He wonders if she recognizes him or simply greets everyone like this.
Over her, he speaks to Ekkehardt.
"Feliz Cumpleaños, mi amigo." He'd gifted the man last year so of course, he had to do so again. He bobs his head to the gift he'd set aside earlier. "No tricks this year, I promise."
no subject
Ekkehardt himself handles Héctor's gift like he's handling a bomb he has to disarm, even despite the reassurance of not having a trick.
"Well, if I get covered in glitter or confetti, you're the one who's going to have to clean up the collateral damage. I'll insist on it." He starts unwrapping his present regardless.
no subject
He laughs at the way Ekkehardt handles the gift. Prank someone once (or twice. Or three times, or...) and gain a lifetime of amusement it seems. He puts a hand over his heart.
"Why, you don't trust me? On my honor, I promise to clean up any confetti I personally cause." Though he wishes now he'd specified not doing that particular trick in order to do another.
Nevertheless, the box is safe. There are two items wrapped in tissue, one notably heavier than the other.
"It's your birthday, but I didn't you'd mind sharing it with your favorite girl," He says, in respects to the embroidered collar that's pulled out. It's done in reds, with a little tassle, adjustable for very thin dogs, as a lich's dog would be most of all.
no subject
"You're quite perceptive on that account," he says, tone fond. "I don't mind at all." He beckons to Schatz, who is quite happy to wear the collar with pride, her tail wagging as she puffs herself up.
He addresses the next item, handling it with the same care. "And what have you seen fit to get for me, I wonder?"
no subject
And then his smile becomes a somewhat sheepish grin.
"I have to admit, I wasn't sure about this one. It's not usually the kind of thing I'd look for but... I mean, you're clearly a kind of collector, after all I saw so I figured..."
He trails off as it's opened up. It's a knife, a decorated one with a red jewel, winding lines, and a winged hilt.
no subject
"It's quite nice." It's a decent weight, but it's more decorative than usable. It's flashy. He wonders if he really does give off the impression of someone who would use such a knife and decides that he probably is and this was inevitable. "I like the engraving." It's clearly the work of someone who didn't want this knife to be used. Except perhaps in a ritual sacrifice? An eager cultist might use this weapon, perhaps. They all seem to prefer the fancy ones. Perhaps daemons and bloodthirsty spirits enjoyed a bit of opulence in that regard.
"I'll treasure it." It's a gift given in earnest. That supercedes all his complaints. He smiles, fond. "Thank you."
no subject
"Ah! You like it! Oh, I'm so glad. I really wasn't sure. But I mean, you had so many on you, I figured it would have to be your thing."
Or something. He still doesn't really know why Ekkehardt was carrying so many then and there but... well, maybe it's a comfort thing, who is he to judge?
A
"The preparations are finally finished. I hope I haven't kept you waiting long."
no subject
"I do admit that I'm eager to see your hard work." He's concerned about her health, but he holds back any criticism of the fact that she might be pushing herself past what she should reasonably do; he should at least attempt to stop working for a day.
open, also COOKIES
(The fact that she's using the cart at all means she had to take the elevator when coming down from her room in Lumière, despite how uncomfortable she really is with doing so; she would have used the stairs otherwise.)
With baking being something that she does as a hobby in what free time she allows herself to have, the cookies have clearly had effort put into them but they almost certainly aren't on the same level as the other things. Honestly, though, that she's doing it anyway is probably enough.]

no subject
I've thought about doing that every now and then. [It is another thing that she's regularly done, and it's something that she obviously likes doing else she would have stopped doing it some time ago, so it shouldn't be an especially-difficult career to pursue.] I'd probably have to more or less strike out on my own for it, though. [The extra accommodations that any given place might have to make due to her height? Might be a bit of an obstacle, depending on how far those places would be willing to go.
Or, maybe, after everything is all over, she could remain here; in addition to what she already does, she could possibly spend part of her time helping Professor Henderson, and probably remain involved with the academy's cooking club on top of that. Accommodations wouldn't be nearly as much of a problem, that way.
It's something to think about.]
no subject
Not that I'm ungrateful! I do appreciate it. [ Just eating another cookie. ]
Is striking out on your own such a daunting idea? [ He glances at her, mid-bite. ]
no subject
Making some kind of contribution to things here had seemed like a pretty good idea.]
It is, kinda. I mean, going from doing it as just a hobby here to trying to do it professionally? Feels like it'd be a little bit of a plunge to take. I'd probably want to try easing my way into it instead of just immediately going off to do my own thing, maybe do some working with people or in places willing to accommodate my being, y'know, tiny.
no subject
Have you tried looking into assistant work here, or in Soleil? It might be a good start, and it would give you valuable experience.
[ Why is he being a guidance counselor on his birthday? He just can't turn this stuff off is why. ]
no subject
I think I'd be better off getting into things either here or there, yeah. Accommodations wouldn't be a huge issue that way, and if I stayed here I could probably stay involved with the cooking club and some other things too.
