[OPEN] MADDIE (+ZEL) INTRO LOG
Who: Maddie & OPEN
What: Adjusting to a new school life (actual new student!)
Where: Around campus, and Lumière floor 3
When: Early March
Warnings: n/a

[ The weather is pretty nice, for the beginning March in France. However, the slight redheaded girl dressed in an interesting shirt and some flannel over top doesn't seem to appreciate it. She's shivering as she moves around, seemingly following around a brown-and-brown cat.
She's slapping up posters around the outside of buildings, sometimes upside-down, as if she can't see the posters that she herself is putting up.
The cat seems concerned, though. ] Come on, Maddie, I think we've put up enough signs for one day. You're not dressed for this sort of weather. [ ...Yes, the cat just talked. In a surprisingly deep voice, too.
The girl scowls, but doesn't actually look at the cat as she speaks. Or at anything, really. ] Shush. I-I need to get used to this. When in Rome... or, France, I guess.

[ The posters she's putting up? They're simple posters -
HOW SUPERNATURAL ARE YOU? HOW MAGICAL? HOW MUCH DO YOU KNOW?

[ Of course, she can't just go around posting up posters. She has to actually, you know... move in to her new room, too. Jailbreak said it would be good to re-acclimate herself to normal life, for however much high-budget-Hogwarts could be considered normal.
Which is how she finds herself slowly making her way up to room 304 - at least, she... assumes it's 304. She's got all of her belongings with her - it all fits in her backpack, so no biggie there. She also has her cat riding on her shoulder, and her white cane in one hand.
She runs her free hand along the room number sign next to the door - she finds the braille, reads it. ⠼⠉⠚⠉⠤⠼⠉⠚⠙ 303-304. A suite. ]
I guess this is it. You ready, Zel?
[ Instead of responding, the cat is staring very intently around at anybody who comes into sight. Gauging their magic power, if they have any, as well a general risk assessment. Feel free to be weirded by this cat's freaky gaze. ]
[ 3. ⠋⠁⠩⠊⠕⠝⠀⠋⠁⠥⠭⠤⠏⠁⠎ ]
[ A couple of days after arriving and quote unquote settling in, and Maddie can be found in or around class, wearing an oversized shirt that simply reads DRESS CODE VIOLATION. ]
Forcing a blind girl to comply with a dress code... how draconian. How am I supposed to know what color shirt I'm wearing? That ruins everything.
[ ...of course, the shirt she was wearing said this, but she's not mentioning that. Actually, she might not be aware of that to begin with. ]

It's safe to say I know a lot of things.

For the record, the podcast is enchanted so that people with no connection to the supernatural do not stumble upon it.

[shockingly, he is not much of a rules follower]

[Given that podcasts are just free for anybody to download, he's talking about some pretty public shit.]

Her voice isn't particularly mean, but it's also not particularly kind as she points out, sans greeting. First things first.]
Are you still waiting for your uniform, young lady?
[She'd use the name overheard, 'Maddie', but that's likely a nickname, and better to use students' proper names.]
no subject
Well, she's going to assume it's her. She can't actually tell, but it seems safe enough. ]
I, uh, wasn't aware we had uniforms? I pretty much just got here, though. [ She's not looking in any particular direction as she talks, but that means she's not looking at the person she's speaking with, either.
The cat, at least, is looking at her. ]
no subject
There might be someone over in administration who'd be able to lend you something appropriate in the interim, as well as officially sign off on advertising for...
[She tilts her head a little to read it. Ah.]
...podcast.
2-ish
The rapping of knuckles against a solid surface doesn't come from the other side of Maddie's front door, but instead, it's the door to the bathroom, the one shared between hers and the room next door. Kano had gotten comfortable having the entire bathroom to himself, but hearing that somebody else was to move into the adjoining room...
Gotta know bathroom preferences so that she's not holding up bathroom using the shower in the morning while he has to pee, or vice versa. ]
no subject
....Is my bathroom knocking?!
no subject
He continues the knocking, steady beats. ]

Maddie stands back slightly from the door, a cat watching amused from the bed behind her. Maddie is scowling slightly, but her eyes are unfocused, and she seems to be... waiting for an answer?
Then, quietly, ] Somebody is there, right?
no subject
Instead, he leans sightly over, still silent, and surveys the room behind her. Another cat... Maverick will be happy, he notes to himself, but Kano's pretty indifferent to animals in general, so his gaze goes trailing around whatever part of the room he can see from the bathroom doorway, if Maddie's gotten anything unpacked at all that he can sneak a peek at. ]

*Also very aware that she doesn't make noise and has no magical trace, meaning Maya's honestly a dead zone of zero magic which has to be a little weird. And oh man is that going to go over well with the blind girl and her seeing eye- demon? The point is Maya's aware that people who can see her freak out when she sneaks up on them. She's not a monster.*

The cat seems to meow lightly, and the blind girl turns. Towards... well, Maya's general direction, although not directly at her. ]
Oh, uh. Hello?
no subject
*Maya faced Maddie squarely, but her eyes kept darting to the cat shaped ball of horrifying noise next to the girl because that wasn't going to be distracting at all. Maya approached while she talked so her voice moved without any actual sign of movement around her.*
I'm kinda quiet.
no subject
Jeez, this girl really is quiet though. ]

Hola. You must be Madeline, is that right?
[She glances over both the girl and the cat; and even though Maddie might be blind, she still offers a smile. It's second nature to greet her new students warmly by this point. But if Zel is on the lookout for anyone with decent magical power... he's found himself a fairly skilled mage.]
no subject
Uh, buenas tardes. And I'm now tapped out on my Spanish.
It's Maddie, though. Nice to meet you...?
[ Her cat is watching, keeping an eye out. He doubts that anything untoward is going to happen here, at school, but he is still being watchful. ]
no subject
English is fine. I'm Imelda Rivera, the RA for this floor. If you have anything that you need, or if there's any problems here at the dorm, you can let me know.
no subject
Although, uh, do we have any dorm rules? I'm assuming no alcohol, which is a shame but I'm trying to kick the habit anyway. [ Don't worry, that's a joke. She hopes that's obvious. ]

You seem to be settling in quite nicely, Maddie. [ She probably knows him by voice at this point, if she didn't hear him coming. He doesn't feel the need to introduce himself, not when they've already been acquainted. ] And you'll get no end of volunteers, I'm sure. If there's anything people enjoy talking about, it's themselves.
2...ROOM TIME,
The ones that are nice and then Do attack unannounced are the worst, if only because she never knows what happens between the part where an attack starts, and the part where her sprites give her body back and declare that everything is hunky-dory and also they're in a desert or something.
(The worst, really)
Apparently that's absolutely not going to happen here though, or at least it's very unlikely. It won't stop her from pondering the idea of just staying quiet and not moving and perhaps being mistaken for part of the wall however.
Especially not when she realizes someone's at the door.
Reira practically holds her breath, waiting for it to open- her own little corner of the room is practically barren. She's got maybe one or two things from when she was helped around the second-hand market, necessary school books, and a few basic clothes and things as was necessary. But otherwise the room could be brand new, for all anyone would know.
She herself is still sitting somewhat rigidly in her chair, for now though.
If Zel can catch anything through doors, it'll be a curiously magic-free person inside, despite having a flame. Also some sprites, albeit hidden. So that's cool.]
3.
[Jail snickers, but replies with the appropriate amount of sympathy.]
Cruel and unusual, that's what it is.
...Actually, if you want it to change colors, that could happen. [This is what she does with her planning periods. How did this woman even manage to write a fucking syllabus? Is she ever working?]

...
You do know that, right?
