Training montage
Who: 82 White Chain Returns From Emptiness To Subdue Evil, Killua Zoldyck, and various others
What: Killua tries to attack White Chain while she goes about her day. For reasons
When: The first weak of Winter Quarter
Warning: Kung Fu
She had made an agreement with one of her students. If the boy could manage to touch the emblem of the Concordant Knights she wore around her neck, she would acknowledge that he had some potential as a student and attempt to teach him martial arts.
That, unfortunately, meant that she had to endure a week of being ambushed by the boy. Fortunately, his technique was still sloppy by her standards, and she had so far had no trouble avoiding him, but it was still a tiring way to spend a week. If angels got tired.
Here are a few things she might be doing this week.
-Monday-
White Chain patrolled the night time streets of Soleil, keeping an eye out for trouble makers. The towering flame that was her head and hair was hidden behind a helmet, but this was still the only city in the world where someone like her could walk around in the open without causing much of a stir.
-Wednesday-
White Chain stepped out of a shimmering portal of light that appeared in the middle of the quad, returning from business in the Outlands (Which was where she had spent Tuesday). Her brow furrowed in irritation. She had MEANT to arrive in her office, but apparently her aim had been off.
-Thursday-
White Chain had set a small idol of YS-het, the god of watchmen, along with some incense sticks in the Academy's non-denominational chapel, and was sitting cross legged with her head bowed in prayer.
-Saturday-
Office hours! White Chain sat in her office grading the first paper turned in for the Outlands Cosmology course. If you wanted to see her about something now is an excellent time.
Regardless of the day there is a very high chance that, in the middle of any conversation she might have, Killua would abruptly appear from ambush to try and attack her.

thursday
For some reason, White Chain's presence always surprises him.
But that's her business, he supposes, and he has his. He's here to make some offerings of his own; there's the soft rustle of petals, the quiet clink of a jar being set down. Unlike the angel's silence, he prays out loud, though he's so quiet that it's almost inaudible. ]

She didn't say anything for a while, finishing up her prayer in her mind, and so there was a moment of companionable silence.]

Do angels have need of prayers? I would have thought existence would be enough.
[ He offers prayers to Death because his work often deals with Her domain, and while he may not be mortal any more, those under his care so often are - or at least, are more fragile than him.
He's not entirely sure what lawkeeping angels get out of prayer, being the way they are already. ]

[White chain did not open her eyes as she spoke.]
The gods are dead, but surely you of all people know that death is not an absolute, even for mortals. For the divine, it is nothing.

Angels were always figures that humans would pray to, in my experience. [ He's certainly seen little shrines in the Outlands, in the houses of those who knew. Lawmakers, lawkeepers, guide us in the path of eternal justice. ] I admit it's a little surreal to know that even angels pray to someone, mortality aside.
[ When the force you pray to is Death, it feels like quibbling over whether a god is dead or not is a bit pointless. ]

Wednesday
[He looks up and gives a short wave.]
Re: Wednesday
My apologies for an unexpected arrival. I hope I did not disturb your drink.
Early Saturday
[Her knock is polite, and when she's allowed to enter, she does...only to blink in surprise. W-wow, that's an incredible spiritual aura! It was strong enough that she could feel it even without actively opening her senses. And her head is on fire, that's awesome!]
[Keep respectful, she tells herself.]
Anou...I wanted to ask if there were any openings in the advanced combat class. And I had a question about a ghost if that's okay.
no subject
But, you never could tell with humans.]
A ghost, you say. Are you being bothered by the dead?
no subject
[She really hopes she can explain this correctly, since it seems like someone's soul is on the line.]
Anou...my friend Peter Parker. He was helping to label some artifacts, and one of them released a soul that copied his form, and he asked me to dance and that seemed pretty harmless so I did, but then he got found and captured inside a box, and...and I thought...
[Her rapid rambling slows down as she struggles to choose her words more carefully.]
It just seems like a terrible way to spend the rest of eternity, alone and surrounded by darkness. So I wanted to ask if there was an alternative to that. He didn't seem dangerous at all.

There's not much point in taking a ghost on a date. They aren't REALLY people anymore. They're just echoes left behind when someone's actual soul flame goes out.
What are you called?
no subject
--My name? Orihime Inoue.
[She inclines her head.]
Is that all they really want, just to go on a date?

Office Hours (sorry for the repeat prompt but this image is too gold)
One of the scraps of information she managed to glean from the volumes was that they each had something to do with the Fundamentally Overpowered Daemons (or fuck-off daemons) that was behind the Condescension. White Chain, from what little Tyzias knew of her, was an expert in the Outlands. So maybe, just maybe, the angel could be of some assistance.
"Hey, Miss Eighty-Two White Chain Returns From Emptiness To Subdue Evil," Tyzias says as she walks into White Chain's office, not a single hint of sarcasm in her voice as she recites the angel's full name. "Can I-"
There's something there. No, no, someone. Coming towards the office, hiding, just waiting to strike. It gave off the same intent that radiated off olives in waves, and that was enough to tell that whoever it was was dangerous. Incredibly so. And Tyzias couldn't think of any good reason for someone like that to be lurking in a teacher's office.
She had to keep casual, though. The worst thing you could do while a killer was hiding in the room was to let them know that you know they're there. Even White Chain may have some difficulty telling that Tyzias knows of Killua's presence. She continues talking without pausing. "-get some help with a project? It's real fuckin' important, here, let me pull it up..." Tyzias begins flipping through her notebook, going through far more pages than any book its size ought to have, searching, searching...
There. The link to the Mariana Pressure Cell. One of Tyzias's early experiments that she hasn't gotten much chance to use; most of the time when she was fighting something that warranted it, she had no time to find the link in her notebook, or it was an indigo that would tank any magic she threw at them. Plus, it was absolutely exhausting even through a secondary mana link. But she wasn't taking any chances with this one. Tyzias taps a symbol at the top of a rune-laden page, and thousands of miles away, at the bottom of the Mariana Trench, a perfectly spherical orb of metal inscribed with runes begins glowing.
Dozens of runic circles appear glowing midair, all hovering around Killua. Less than a tenth of a second later, blindingly-bright beams of teal energy fly out of the runes, all laser-focused on the would-be trainee.

She seemed nonplussed as Tyzias fiddled with her notebook. "Please, there is no need to-"
Whups there goes a spell in Killua's face.
no subject
"YOU STAY OUT OF THIS!"
no subject
She tries her best to hide her pain, though. Blinking owlishly at Killua, Tyzias says, "Wait, you? The gold kid? What the fuck are you trying to do here?"

Sunday
Let's finish this where we don't need to worry about anyone else getting hurt. I'll admit defeat if I can't take the comb from you within three moves.

Not long later, White Chain strode towards the intended meeting spot, senses alert and expecting some kind of trap.

"I hope you're ready. It was a lot of work, but I've figured out a move that's 100% guaranteed to work."
